Oak Dresser in ASCP Graphite

Today I'm going to show you an antique oak dresser I recently refinished. The piece originally belonged to my client's grandmother. Rather than using it as a traditional dresser, Shanna wanted to display the piece in the entry way of their new home. In order to do that we had to do some sprucing.

Here's a before picture of the dresser

and here's the final product.

Well, what'ch think?

I know...right!

It's beautiful!

ASCP Graphite was wise color choice for this piece and its intended space.

Next to the blue hydrangeas, it looks a little silvery grey.

Luckily the brass pulls were all intact so we were able to keep the original hardware.
I love the traditional element they add to the finished product.

I refinished the top of the dresser in Dark Walnut
and sealed it with three coats of a Spar Urethane.
(The wood is actually a little darker than the pictures may suggest.)

Oak can be tricky to work with but when all was said and done
the finish was as smooth as a baby's bottom!

This piece of furniture is going to work gorgeous in Shanna's entry way.

Can't you just imagine it paired with
an oversized sunburst mirror,
maybe a of couple of mercury glass lamps,
and a few hydrangeas???

It screams,
''Welcome to our home."

As always, thanks for reading 13CCF. Stop back next week and I will introduce you to my new friend, Florence.

Teal Dresser with Lattice Stencil

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint is the BOMB DIGGITY! No lie. It offers great coverage and quick dry time. There's no prep work, priming, or sanding involved and <<drum roll please>> you can also mix your own custom colors.

Truthfully mixing custom colors can be a little intimidating and with good reason. A quart of ASCP costs about $40. It's not cheap. What if the color turns out muddy? That would be such a waste! Luckily my stockist introduced me to the Color Mixer Tool from the Purple Painted Lady's blog site. The program allows you to experiment with up to three color combinations at a time. No, it's not an exact science but it definitely takes a lot of the guessing out of the equation.

This week I am going to show you a custom teal color I mixed using a combination of Antibes Green, Napoleonic Blue, and ??? (Oy! I really should have written down the recipe.) I think it may have been Country Grey. I experimented with an inexpensive wooden dresser I picked up at a local garage sale this spring. Sorry, I forgot to take a before photo.

Here's the final product.

What'cha think?

I love it!

The custom teal color turned out gorgeous!

To give the piece a little extra bling

I stenciled a lattice pattern on the sides of the drawers.

I wanted to add a couple of big cherry colored knobs from Hobby Lobby

but I didn't get it done before I posted

Obviously this piece would work great in a girls room, a nursery, or a spare bedroom.

Based on its size and depth I think the piece
would also work well in bathroom, craft room, or possibly an office space.

I guess it just depends on the style of your house.

I'm selling the chest of drawers for $60.
If it doesn't sell it's going straight to the cabin. Ha!

As always thanks for reading 13CCF. Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

Antibes Green Credenza

I chose Antibes Green for one of my first ASCP projects and have been smitten with the color ever since.  A couple of my customers have considered using it but last week someone actually pulled the trigger!!! I wasn't expecting it. As a matter of fact I'm pretty sure I punched the poor woman in the arm..."Shut up!". Not overly professional on my part but I was so excited by her choice. Finally someone else who's crushing on this green color, too!

My client wanted a pop of color in her brand new kitchen. The original plan was to paint the whole credenza in Antibes Green but after I'd had a chance to get to know the piece (aka...painted the first coat) the project changed course (aka...I had an idea). I called the owner and asked if she had ever considered removing the doors? I'd visited their home last winter for a different project so I knew the piece was the perfect size and depth for the space. I absolutely loved the style of the legs and traditional features of the credenza but wasn't thrilled with look of the exposed hinges and Moroccan details on the door panels.

She took my suggestion. Here's the final product.

Well, whatcha think?

You know me...

I love it!

The open shelving is going to be great for storage and
the Antibes Green is going to look fantastic with the blue hues throughout their home.

Pairing an otherwise traditional piece of furniture with a bold color
is such a great style choice. Good job, Shanna!

I'm pretty sure BH&G would agree.

This month's issue is full of green furniture and accents!

Let me know if you want to join the Antibes Green team.
I'll be happy to hook ya up;)
Trust me...your friends will be green with envy!

As always thanks for reading 13CCF. Stop back next week. I hope to have a teal dresser ready to sell!

Storage Ideas

This week I want to show you some drawers I painted for my latest 13CCF client.

The owner purchased a large dresser on an online garage sale site
with the intention of turning the drawers into under the bed storage boxes.

Her husband will add the casters later.
My only task was to paint the drawers and mount the hardware.

Here's the final product.

What'cha think?

I think they're going to work great for storage!
She chose drawers that were big and sturdy and made of solid wood.

The owner wanted two of the larger bins to be painted a dark gray color
for the master bedroom.

I mixed French Linen and Graphite to achieve this charcoal color.

I love it!

The dark gray looks beautiful with silver bedazzled handles.

The owner also requested two of the drawers be painted pink
for her daughter's room.

Annie Sloan carries a pink shade called Antoinette but didn't have any on hand.

Once again, I mixed a custom color.

I used ASCP Emperor's Silk and Country Grey to come up with this rosy shade.

It looks great with adorable glass knobs the owner selected.

Honestly, this DIY project would work for any bedroom.
Everyone should think twice before they get rid of any old dressers.

Ok...the last two drawers were only about half the size of the four large units.

My client wanted the smaller boxes painted red to match the colors of her enclosed sun porch.
I painted the body of the drawer in ASCP Emperor's Silk.

Then I gave the fronts a few coats of regular chalkboard paint for a fun 'lil twist.

These boxes won't be used as under the bed storage.
The owner was just looking for something to hold her potted plants.
Great idea!

As always thanks for reading 13CCF. I hope everyone has a great Mother's Day this weekend!
