Farmhouse Trestle Table and Benches

As I began to write this week's post I realized it was starting to sounded a lot like a gentle breakup:

Happy Valentine's Day from 13CCF!
It's been over a month since my last post.
<<<Maybe we should just slow things down a bit.>>>

I've decided I need to pace myself a little more in 2015.
<<<Don't worry, it's not you. It's me.>>>

 Last year I posted 39 projects. THIRTY-NINE!
<<<I just need a little time for myself.>>>

Good gravy, what was I thinking? LOL!
It's not like I'm under contract after all.
 <<<We're not breaking up...I promise.>>>

Don't worry, the posts are going to keep coming
but they probably won't be weekly (especially during basketball season).
<<<I love you but I can't commit to anything serious right now.>>>

Thanks for understanding.
<<<Don't hate me.>>>

So now that we have all that cleared up would you like to see what I've been up to this month (other than basketball I mean)? I've been working on the queen of all Pinterest projects...

a farmhouse trestle table!!!

No, I didn't build it myself. My clients made it from a DIY plan they picked out on Pinterest. I don't have the exact instructions Heather and Terry used but here's a similar color coded DIY plan from Shanty 2 Chic.

The trick to taking on such a big project is using a Kreg Jig
Basically the tool allows you hide your screws to give your furniture a more professional look.

My clients chose to make their farmhouse table out of pine.
Here are BEFORE pictures of the table top,

the trestle style bases,

and the two matching benches.

Pine can be a booger to stain.
I chose not to use a wood conditioner
for fear I wouldn't be able to get the color dark enough.
Instead I gave everything a base coat of Provincial stain
and top coated it with Dark Walnut.

Then I sealed the pieces with several coats of Spar Urethane.
Here's the finished product:

So what'cha think?

Gorgeous, huh?!?

I LOVE IT.
I LOVE IT.
I LOVE IT.

It turned out absolutely beautiful.

This young family is going to be able to enjoy this piece for years to come.

The farmhouse design is both functional and stylish.

Who knew pine could look so good?

The owners might add a couple of captain's chairs
to the ends of the table one day

but these benches are extremely sturdy

with the trestle supports. EXTREMELY sturdy.

There are tons of different DIY table designs available on Pinterest

and they are FREE.

So if you can't find exactly what you're looking for in a store

make it yourself.

(Or convince your sweetheart to...)

It could be amazing!

As always thanks for reading 13CCF. My next project is a mini-makeover for my bedroom. Wish me luck!
